چکیده

Interference is the major limiting factor when evaluating the performance of cellular radio systems. Sources of interference could be another mobile at the same cell, a call in progress in a neighboring cell or other base stations operating in the same frequency band. Interference on voice channels causes cross talk due to an undesired transmission. On control channels, interference leads to missed and blocked calls due to errors in the digital signaling. Interference is more severe in urban areas, due to the large number of base stations and mobiles. Interference has been recognized as a major bottleneck when looking for increasing capacity and is often responsible for dropped calls. The two major types of system-generated cellular interference are co-channel interference and adjacent channel interference. Even though interfering signals are often generated within the cellular system, they are difficult to control in practice (due to random propagation effects). Even more difficult to control this interference caused out-of-band users, which arises without warning due to front end overload of subscriber equipment or intermittent inter-modulation products. In practice, the transmitters from competing cellular carriers are often a significant source of out-of-band interference, since competitors often locate their base stations in close proximity to one another in order to provide comparable coverage to customers. This paper presents study of co and adjacent channel interferences in second and third generations of cellular radio systems.

Co-channel and Adjacent Channel Interference Measurement of UMTS and GSM/EDGE Systems in 900 MHz Radio Band

This paper is concerned with inter-system and intra-system interference measurements of 2.5G and 3G mobile communication systems. The both systems UMTS and GSM/EDGE are assumed to operate in a common radio band of 900 MHz. The main system parameters are briefly introduced as well as the measurement scenario. Several simulations and key measurements were performed. Important results are describe...

A Recursive Approximation Approach of non-iid Lognormal Random Variables Summation in Cellular Systems

Co-channel interference is a major factor in limiting the capacity and link quality in cellular communications. As the co-channel interference is modeled by lognormal distribution, sum of the co-channel interferences of neighboring cells is represented by the sum of lognormal Random Variables (RVs) which has no closed-form expression. Assuming independent, identically distributed (iid) RVs, the...

On Joint Sub-channel Allocation, Duplexing Mode Selection, and Power Control in Full-Duplex Co-Channel Femtocell Networks

As one of the promising approaches to increase the network capacity, Full-duplex (FD) communications have recently gained a remarkable attention. FD communication enables wireless nodes to simultaneously send and receive data through the same frequency band. Thanks to the recent achievements in the self-interference (SI) cancellation, this type of communication is expected to be potentially uti...

Using measurements extracted from GSM/UMTS networks for 3G planning and RRM evaluation

. This paper describes a simulation tool developed for 3G planning and suitable also for some RRM strategies evaluation. The innovative issue is that the simulator is based on data extracted from real GSM/UMTS networks. Considering the extensive use of GSM/UMTS co-siting for 3G network deployment, an accurate representation of propagation, mobility as well as traffic distribution is achieved co...

Joint Channel and Data Estimation for Asynchronous Gsm Users

In multiple-access communication systems co-channel interference can be mitigated by applying multiuser detection instead of treating the interference as additive noise [1]. In this paper we focus on downlink operation in a GSM-like TDMA network and investigate multiuser channel estimation and data symbol detection of two users that share the same physical channel in two adjacent cells. Such a ...
